For Amazon Prime Day 2023 we're expecting another big stack of savings this summer. It's also more than likely that we'll see a second event once again ahead of Black Friday.

The first Amazon Prime Day sale last year took place on 12th-13th July, and there were hundreds of deals on popular brands and products, exclusive to Prime members. It was announced in September that a second Prime Day sale would be taking place in October, which saw similar deals at record low prices.

Prime Day 2, aka the Prime Early Access sale took place from the 11th-12th October 2022, giving Prime members exclusive access to early deals a month ahead of the Black Friday season.

In this guide, we'll take you through what to expect in 2023 and the best deals to be had. If you're looking to buy now, you can get more money off your purchases using these Amazon discount codes.

When is Amazon Prime Day 2023?

Prime Day normally takes place in the second week of July, though there have been some anomalies in recent years, due to the Pandemic and the Olympics. For 2023 though, we're expecting another regular occurrence of the sales event (fingers crossed). With that in mind, the most likely dates at this stage are the 11th and 12th July 2023. These will likely be confirmed a few weeks in advance.

Last year's Prime Day sale happened on 12th - 13th July 2022 and had some of the best offers on offer over the 2-day event. There were record low prices across multiple departments, specifically on Amazon devices.

In late September 2022, it was announced that Prime Day 2 will be happening on 11th-12th October in 15 different countries, including UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and many more. This sale was for Prime members to get cheap early deals before Black Friday.

How to get a free Prime account for Prime Day

It goes without saying (but we're going to say it anyway) that you need to be an Amazon Prime member to shop the Prime Day sale.

Not only do Amazon Prime members get to shop the Prime Day sale, but they also get early access to ALL Lightning Deals and extra offers on Prime benefits, like coupon offers, free Deliveroo Plus and more. While non-Prime members can shop at Amazon during Prime Day, the discounts won't be as big so a Prime subscription is definitely something to consider.

If you're new to Prime, Amazon Prime is available on a 30-day free trial for all new members. If you're a student, there's even better news as Amazon offers a free six-month Amazon Prime trial on Prime Student and after that, it will only cost you £4.49 a month.

To shop the Prime Day sale, our advice would be to sign up for a Prime account a couple of weeks before the sales date so you can shop the sale for free. You can cancel your account at anytime if you're not happy with it and you'll have got the best deals from the Prime Day sale, free unlimited delivery and you won't have paid a penny for the membership fee. If you decide to keep your Prime account, see our guide on how to save money on Amazon Prime for money-saving hacks.

What were the best Prime Day deals 2022?

Prime Day had some of the best offers across multiple departments in this year's sale. The best deals were on a range of tech, kitchen and beauty products. For example, the Samsung QN90A TV was on sale at half price, the Amazon Echo Dot was just £39, and the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean 9000 had £400 taken off its price. Other low prices included the Fitbit Versa 2, George Foreman Kettle Charcoal BBQ, Philips Hue smart bulbs and free Kindle Unlimited for 3 months.

Overall, Amazon devices had the biggest discounts with Echo speakers, Blink cameras, Kindles and Fire tablets hitting record low prices. Alongside this, Shark vacuum cleaners also had their prices slashed, Tower kitchen appliances were super cheap and headphones from Beats, Sony and Samsung were incredibly popular.

What brands had the best prices on Prime Day 2022?

In terms of brands, Amazon wrote about which brands would be part of the sale on aboutamazon.com. A spokesperson said:

“The two-day event includes must-have brands such as Philips, Bosch, Elemis, Rimmel, Urban Decay, Garnier, Miele, Samsung, and Shark; styles from fashion brands including Amazon Essentials, Puma, and Swarovski; and Amazon’s lowest prices ever on select products from Sony and Bose.”

From this list, we can confirm that Sony and Bose were two of the bestselling brands this year, with cheap prices on its speakers, earbuds and headphones. Philips, Samsung and Shark all saw big price drops, and makeup brands like Rimmel saw the most sales.

Due to the cost of living crisis, we believe people are using these sales to stock up on essentials for round the home. From washing up liquid to coat hangers, teabags to cat food, more and more people are looking for cheap prices on these, and luckily, Amazon delivers with incredibly low prices on these products, especially on their Vouchers page.

Is Prime going up in price?

Amazon Prime is rose in price in the UK in September 2022. On 15th September, the monthly and annual cost of Prime rose on both standard and student accounts.

This takes the monthly subscription fee to £8.99, which is £1 more expensive than before, and the annual subscription has increased by £16, from £79 to £95. For students, the cost will rise from £3.99 to £4.49 monthly and the annual subscription is now £47.49, an increase from £39.

So, if you want Prime to shop the Prime Day sale, we recommend signing up before the event and if you're new, you can shop with a free trial. You can cancel Prime at anytime so you won't be too affected by the price hike.

Will Prime Day 2 be better than Black Friday?

Prime Day is heralded as Amazon's biggest sales event of the year, however, Amazon is also well known for its Black Friday sales. Last year, Amazon started their Black Friday sale early, weeks in advance of the official sales date. Many shoppers got to take advantage of early discounts and themed weeks that Amazon ran in the lead-up to Black Friday.

Having said that, there is a key difference between Prime Day and Black Friday. The most obvious one is that Black Friday isn't an Amazon-only sale but retailers from around the world take part and slash their prices during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend. Black Friday is also available for all shoppers and not just Prime members.

As Black Friday is the more famous shopping event, you'll typically find cheaper prices. However, Amazon is a big component of the Black Friday sale and its Prime Day sales have some of the cheapest offers on the day. This isn't to say that Amazon won't have low prices on Black Friday but if you're a regular Amazon shopper or Prime user, you'll find the cheapest offers available during the Prime Day sale.

As Prime Day 2 is taking place in October, this means the event is happening a month in advance of Black Friday. This gives us the idea that Prime Day 2 could almost act as a competitor to Black Friday and will most likely offer the cheapest prices to Prime members in this sale.

What kind of sales has Amazon run in the past?

Amazon Prime Day brands

Looking at last year's Amazon sales is a good indication of what to expect from their future sales, including Prime Day, Black Friday and another potential Prime Day 2 event. Amazon constantly has deals available sitewide on a range of products in its 'Today's Deals' section.

At T3, we like to consider ourselves experts on big sales events so by looking at the patterns from Amazon's 2022 sales, we've come up with a few predictions for what we expect to see in 2023.

Like most retailers, Amazon sticks to seasonal holidays so earlier this year, we had the Amazon Spring Sale, which had offers on a wide range of products, including laptops, air fryers, headphones and lawnmowers. As Prime Day happened in July, this sale had deals on absolutely everything, but especially on Amazon devices, air conditioners, vacuum cleaners and premium beauty.

As we got further into summer, Amazon ran its Back To School sale which had cheap prices on tablets, stationery, fashion and textbooks. Finally, to cap off the summer, we saw the Amazon End of Summer Sale which treated shoppers to low prices on DIY tools, cookware, smart security cameras, razors, coffee machines and more.

Amazon also typically runs themed weeks throughout the year, and specifically in the run-up to its Black Friday event. So far this year, there's been Gardening Week and Fragrance Week. All of this gives us a strong indication that these deals could make a comeback during 2023.
